Azhar Gaur

Founder, Act World Theatre

Azhar Gaur is a theatre practitioner, actor, writer, and the founder of Act World Theatre, established in Saharanpur in 2021. His artistic journey began at an early age under the guidance of his grandfather, a poet and Dastango. Growing up in a small village, Azhar learned storytelling, music, poetry, creative expression, and the values of simple living from him.

These early influences shaped Azhar’s understanding of art as a powerful tool for education, expression, and social change. Driven by this belief, he has worked extensively with Gandhian organisations and marginalised communities across India. He has conducted theatre workshops with tribal children and community groups, using theatre to encourage creativity, confidence, and self-expression.

As an actor, Azhar has performed in numerous theatre productions and continues to explore different forms of performance, including mime. Alongside acting, he is also actively engaged in writing. His notable creative works include Kancha, a play about a child living in the mountains, as well as a collection of Urdu poetry and other literary writings.

Throughout his journey, Azhar has been guided and inspired by many mentors and teachers, including Prasanna Heggodu Ji, Padma Shri Niranjan Goswami Ji, Jamshed Sir, and several Gandhian institutions and ashrams that have contributed to his artistic and personal growth.

Through Act World Theatre, Azhar continues to promote theatre as a medium for creativity, dialogue, education, and community engagement. His vision is to make theatre accessible to all and to build meaningful connections between art, society, and human experience.
